Bruno Mars & The Hooligans perform onstage during the Pepsi Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show

Was there ever a point where you and Bruno were thinking this wasn't going to be a hit? Or was this just a straight up jamming we're getting this awesome song done?

over 7 months, there were many many late nights and early mornings in trying to finish the song. alot of times we left thinking we’d never get the song right. and in some ways, it was the hardest song to complete that i’ve ever worked on. we were so into our original jamming demo, we wanted to get it perfect on the record.

What inspired Uptown Funk? Like what was the whole idea behind it, the mind set you were in, etc. And welcome to tumblr, too.

Uptown Funk was kind of born out of a jam. Bruno on drums, Jeff Bhasker on keys, me on guitar and Phil Smeeze on vocals & vibes. we wanted to make a dancefloor record played live–that felt good. most records, i try to make something that i feel is missing in music. something that, if i hadn’t made it myself, if it came on the radio, i would be psyched to listen to.

Favorite Male Singers in Pastel Pink: Bruno Mars

‘‘Someone told me something that stuck with me: ‘You have to envision your life, and then go backwards.’ I’ve been living by that motto for a while, so I see where I need to be. Now I’m just backtracking and trying to get back up there.‘‘
